focuspuller station

I have a backlash, slak in my manual follow focus, FF4. The play appears to be due to a ball bearing malfunction. How to fix it?

I use the FF4 for shots which require great finesse. For example, advances in the long focal plane with very little diaphragm (F: 135mm anamorphic at T: 1.9)

The use of the Folow HF command (WCU4) does not allow me to have the precision in the follow-up of the point in the intermediate distances .. the HF folow lacks amplitude in these intermediate distances .. despite a rate proportional to the displacement the too small depth of field and the small amplitude of the course of the point does not allow the precision required to make the plan.

Conversely, the manual folow has a greater stroke and therefore allows me to have greater precision in the follow-up. However, this backlash in FF4 is unbearable in my concentration.

I tried to disassemble my FF4, the backlash appears in the ball bearing block ... but beyond the belt .. I cannot disassemble…

YO! Stand mounting solutions for Focus Station?

Recently I’ve been looking at how to mod my focus station. I inherited a front box from a mentor, and want to implement it ASAP. I use a matthews light stand II, on wheels—manfrotto quick release with WC super clamp with V-lock wedges to my focus unit (it’s so legit I love it), all that to say I have plenty of room. Yet, having never used one, I’m struggling to find a “clean” and “quick” way of attaching and detaching. I also, would love to see if there are any trays that would fit the dimensions of the legs fully spread— I use a Thule, and would love to be able to put it on the bottom of my stand, and have it sit nearby always. Something like we see in carts, and their attachments, with the carpeted side and just slots where you slide it over the spreaders, or…

Thanks to everyone who’s replied! Found an Instagram that actually sells exactly what I’m looking for. So going to hit that up! Will keep you posted on the rest of the setup.

ARCHIVE - What is your must have on a "workstation"?

What is your must have on a "workstation"? carts inovative By Martin Larsen on 6/3/20, 4:25 PM • 231 views Hei all, hope y’all are healthy and safe! So, I’m thinking to invest in a Inovativ Axis system, https://www.inovativ.com/shop/axis/axis-digistation/ with an extra top shelf. Anyone using this as your focuspuller workstation? Pros/cons? And what is your must haves on a workstation? Marty

Hi Martin! Can't say much to the workstation itself as I never work from one. I did however, out of frustration with what the rental houses were offering, buy the Matthews Monitor Stand II with the Rock 'n roller wheels. The stand reaches from sitting to standing height easily and has indoor wheels attached. This makes the footprint quite a lot smaller for indoor and studio work. You add the Rock 'n rollers for outdoor work. Most Axis components should mount to this stand as well as they're based on Mafer clamps. In my…

Stunning photo—and love this! Seen a lot of these around, especially in Atlanta, but none with the same mods as yours, thanks for sharing, definitely inspiring and creative!

ARCHIVE - Do you use/like front boxes?

Do you use/like front boxes? Dollymate Frontbox Monitorbox By Carlos Cañal on 5/24/19, 6:47 PM • 904 views I am thinking to get a monitor front box and I am not sure which one to get! I am in between getting the Dollymate minimate from CGE or to get a wooden one from Birnbox or Hollywoodworks... Which one you like most?  Do you know anyone doing craft front boxes in Europe? Thanks! Aidan Gray On 5/29/19, 11:19 PM I also have a Birnbox from Scott Birnkrant and I find myself using it whenever I can! I do a lot of travel and run'n'gun type shoots that don'y really allow me to pull it out, but the second I'm on a long form or stage job, its the first thing that comes out. I can't say the last time I actually mounted it to a head, but it always lives on my monitor stand just below my FIZ…
