CamTools, 3D Printed Tools for the Camera Department

Hey everyone! I wanted to share something I've been working on alongside my career as an Assistant Camera.

I'm a professional AC and, like many of you, I've always been obsessed with organization and problem-solving on set. A few years ago I started combining that obsession with 3D printing, and it slowly turned into something bigger than I expected.

I've just launched my Cults3D profile — 3D-CamTools — where I publish pro-grade 3D printed accessories designed specifically for the Camera Department.

Every model is field-tested on real productions with ARRI, RED, Tilta, Teradek and more. Some are free, others are available at a very accessible price.

If you're tired of zip-tying things together or spending a fortune on accessories for niche problems — this might save you some headaches on your next shoot.

They're nice and all but almost all of these have free counterparts available already, some being almost exactly the same, some being even better 🤷‍♂️ Available here, and on model sharing sites like Printables, Makerworld, Thingiverse etc. Only a couple of those I haven't seen before. You can search all of those at the same time on Yeggi.com

Focus Marks And SDI Cable Color Rings

Hello, here are two little accessories I made at the request of some friends.

  • Focus Marks for Arri / Preston rings (Works on the Hi5 with WCU-4 rings, who has a lip, as shown on the picture below)

  • BNC Color Rings to help identifying SDI cables for complex video configuration. They actually fit well and don't prevent to turn the cable to remove it (I was perplex with my first print but tested it afterwards)

EDIT : I added a focus mark holder to tape on your monitor or to keep in your front box

Frivolous reporting and deletion of similar models on Printables, publishing here instead for now

Mr. Masaki Hirahara, AKA "Mott" reported a couple of my designs on Printables, and they got deleted without the admins even asking about it. Apparently they don't adhere to the law about these things, they just delete if someone asks them to delete and give undue protections to the "original designer". I decided to share them here at least for now. Also attached are the notifications and side by side

images confirming they are different models.

I only looked at pictures, and decided to make something similar. I did not have access to his 3D models or printed objects. So they're not his designs, since that would require patents. With regards to the V-mount sticker base, I had already had a vague idea about it before even seeing Mott's model on his store, since it's a really simple idea. He doesn't share or sell his models, he only sells finished…

Printables admins responded with: "Hi,

We understand your statement regarding the design process and the fact that you modeled these files yourself. However, the designs were copied very closely from the original work, and we have accepted the report as a violation of the original author’s design rights.

Even if a model is recreated from scratch, closely mimicking the aesthetic and functional design of another creator's unique work without authorization still falls under our infringement policy.

If you wish to discuss this further or seek permission to share similar designs, we recommend contacting the original designer directly. You can reach them via their Instagram profile: https://www.instagram.com/mott_jp/

I hope you can understand. In case of changes or find the better solution we are in contact.

Best regards, The Printables Team" And

"Hi, thank you for your message. I will definitely follow this case, and I am committed to finding a fair solution for both sides as we move forward. We appreciate your models and all the effort you put into creating them. We are never happy about having to remove content from Printables, but we must respect the original designs of other creators. Thank you for your understanding. Sincerely, M"

Neither of which make any sense, but it is what it is. I also sent a message to Mott on Instagram 5 days ago and an email 3 days ago with no response.

Parametric Easy to Print Filter and Lens case tags

I’ve been working on some parametric filter tags and lens case labels,

All settings are adjustable In Makerworld so you don’t have to design your own. You don't need to use a bambu printer or slicer for this to work. You can add color with the paint by layer height function in any slicer as well when you slice it. Free to all! Maybe just boost my design in makerworld if you like it!

There is a Fusion 360 Parametric File in links as well

No more need to create or modify a design for new tags and easy to run batches

Filters Box

Hello, I made a parametric box for squared shape filters.

It work well with my small cokin filters and made profiles with for 4"x4" and 4"x5.6" filters sets I don't have one to test it yet, but maybe some of you can find a use for it !

Check the model here

I'm sure someone will like it, personally I wouldn't use it because

  • Printed flat surface is slippery

  • Nothing to catch the filter like felt or spring locks on the side to create friction

  • If it's open and you accidentally rotate it upside down because slippery, multiple filters fall 😬

  • If it falls when closed, those regular pouches will protect a filter even if it falls in the pouch, but with this the lid will likely fly off, and then you have multiple filters on the ground unprotected 😬

Bolt 6 XT Max Transmitter Fan Noise Issue

Hey all, I am hoping to get some insight to an issue I am having with one of my Bolt 6 XT Max Transmitters.

The fan inside is making a terrible noise, loud enough we've had to call cut on set and see about getting a replacement from a rental house. I have taken the shell off, and there doesn't seem to be anything obstructing the fan. It'll spin inside the magnetized base, then it appears to ... I dunno, spin too fast for it's own good? Almost like it goes off-axis while spinning.

If I put the lightest amount of pressure on it, it immediately quiets down. and seems to run more efficiently. Video of the problem attached.

If anyone might have any insight to help solve the problem, I'd prefer if I didn't have to send it in for service and be down a kit.

In the video…

First thing that comes to mind is that it might have lost some of it’s bearings. Tends to happen when people blow out dust from their cooling fans and let them spin super fast, faster than they’re meant to spin. Seen it in all kinds of cooling fans for electronics. Before blowing out the dust with air, stop the fan from moving and then blow. Same goes when using suction. For a quick and more defined answer, I’d send the description and video to an electronic repair shop. They’d probably know what that sound is for sure.

UGreen RJ45 Coupler?

Hi All, anyone made or fancy making a mount/bracket for a UGreen RJ45 coupler? https://amzn.eu/d/09w0jACc

I was thinking something along the lines of this, only ideally with 1/4 20 loc pin mount kicking out of the side:

Please excuse the terrible photoshopping!

Operator override mode

Can the cPro regain control from Operator override mode coming from an OCU-1 or Arri master grips? I don’t have access to an OCU-1 or Master grips at the moment.

80 vistas

Currently that’s an Arri only feature. What does work is if you have an OCU / MG mapped to an axis, and you add that axis on to your cmotion HU it will take over control. To hand it back just unmap it from the hand unit
